ACADEMIC PROFILE

Doriana Musaj is an architect and Urban Planner. She completed her Master of Science studies at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Polytechnic University of Tirana, graduating with an MSc in Urban Planning, in 2008. She also attended the Landscape and Urban Design master course, 2011-2013, at Polis University, with a joint degree with IHS- Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies, Erasmus. The master’s thesis focuses on the research of the phenomenon of the urbanization of the coastal area in the case study of the bay of Durra, Golem area, with an approach to the investigation of the institutional and legal overlaps that have generated and stimulated this phenomenon.

As the conclusion of the third cycle of studies, she received her doctorate at the University of Polis and that of Ferrara with a double degree in 2023. The doctoral thesis focuses on the interests and conflicts generated by decision-making in the public space of the city, investigating the layers inherited urban using as a research lens the theories of urban commons.

Since 2019, it is part of Polis University, collaborating in the subjects of Urban Planning, Restoration of Cultural Heritage and Urbanism. Starting from September 2022, he is the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Planning, Environment and Urban Management at POLIS University.

She has been guest staff at the Polytechnic University of Tirana, Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism, during 2010-2018. Also she was engaged as a guest lecturer at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar in the lecture series “Theatre Spaces: From Buenos Aires via Istanbul to Weimar and Jena”. She has organized several workshops as well as developed a series of lectures, open debates and being invited as a guest lecturer in public and academic activities. An active part of her academic career has been participation in seminars, webinars and national and international conferences related to issues related to planning and the city, challenges and opportunities of communities as well as urban and cultural values of human habitats.
