ACADEMIC PROFILE

Doriana Musaj is an architect and Urban Planner. She completed her Master of Science studies at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Polytechnic University of Tirana, graduating with an MSc in Urban Planning, in 2008. She also attended the “Landscape and Urban Design” master’s degree, 2011-2013, at Polis University, with a diploma joint with IHS-Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies, Erasmus. The master’s thesis focuses on the research of the phenomenon of the urbanization of the coastal area with the case study of the bay of Durra, the area of Golem, with an approach examining the institutional and legal overlaps that have generated and stimulated this phenomenon.
As the conclusion of the third cycle of studies, she received her doctorate in 2023, with a double degree from the University of Polis, Tirana and that of Ferrara, Italy. The doctoral thesis focuses on the interests and conflicts that are generated by decision-making in the public space of the city, investigating the inherited urban layers and where the theories of urban commons are used as a research lens.
Since 2019, it is part of Polis University, collaborating in the subjects of Urban Planning, Urban Regeneration, Cultural Heritage and Technical Urbanism. Starting from September 2022, he is the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Planning, Environment and Urban Management at POLIS University.
Earlier, during 2010-2018, she was guest staff at the Polytechnic University of Tirana, Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism. He has also been a guest lecturer at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar in the lecture series “Theatre Spaces: From Buenos Aires via Istanbul to Weimar and Jena”. She has participated in the organization of workshops, academic activities such as a series of open lectures, debates, organization of scientific conferences. An important aspect of her contribution to society has been active participation in referrals, presentations and public activities. An active part of her academic career has been participation in research projects and national and international conferences related to issues related to planning and the city, challenges and opportunities of communities as well as urban and cultural values of human habitats.
