ACADEMIC PROFILE
Marsela Plyku DEMAJ is an urban planner with a focus on urban design and an expert in the field of conservation and restoration of material cultural heritage. Since October 2022, she is part of the academic staff of Polis University and at the same time a candidate for doctoral studies in architecture and urban planning offered by U_Polis and the University of Ferrara. As part of the Faculty of Research and Development, she also assists in the Coordination of the Executive Master’s Program in Restoration, Conservation and Valorization of Cultural Heritage.
During the experience of over 18 years, she has been the author / co-author of conservation / restoration projects, as well as engaged in the conception and implementation of training courses under the coordination of UNESCO. As part of the technical groups, she contributed to the preparation of files and management plans for the declaration of “World Heritage” of the Historical Centers of Berat and Gjirokastra (2008), as well as of the “Natural and Cultural Heritage of the Lake Ohrid Region” ( 2015-2019). During 2014-2019, she was a member of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Cultural Monuments (now IKTK), and currently is a member of the National Council of Tangible Cultural Heritage and the Editorial Board of the scientific journal “Monumentet”.
Research areas include research on buffer zones of historic urban sites and particularly the design approaches in these urban contexts, management plans as well as heritage impact assessments for cultural heritage sites. She has special interest in interdisciplinary approaches that includes urban planning, cultural heritage, sustainable development and community.
