MedASA experiments in a new methodology of teaching and learning in architecture
Beginnings of Summer School; program for MedASA
An intensive educational and research program, simultaneously experimental and international.
MedASA – Mediterranean Advanced School of Architecture is a program promoted by Mediterranea University of Reggio Calabria in accordion to University of Naples Federico II, for the TNE (Transnational Education) project, supported by PNRR.
The course which starts in 1st July 2025, it addresses a chosen group of students and is structured in a hybrid format (50% online, 50% in-class), with masterclass, summer school and workshop, for a total of 500 hours.
Architecture, Climate, and the City: Projection starts from the ground
MedASA is an international project that intertwines education and research over public spaces, focusing on climate hazards and urban ground.
The main theme is SS_SPAZIO SUOLO, a module dedicated to projection of public spaces concerning environmental hazards.
Cities are consistently exposed to extreme phenomenons, meanwhile projection frequently continues to ignore the ground as an active source.
The purpose is to overturn the perspective and to work on tangible solutions for the urban adjustment.
The ground is not only a building surface but an ecological infrastructure, water absorption, moving and interaction space. And overall it is a public space, therefore the initiative to address climate change mitigation issues starting precisely from squares, parks and urban voids.
Amid Didactics and Experimentations
MedASA is an educational, experimental and interdisiplinary program for architects, urbanists, environment experts and infrastructure project developers.
It intertwines projection research with technical tools to offer the participants a practical training in the transformation of urban contexts.
A Network in the Mediterranean
MedASA is part of the project SULIEIA, which is coordinated by University of Naples Federico II and includes academical partnerships in the Balkans (Albania, North Macedonia and Montenegro).
The international and multi-party approach is not only an organizational element, but an essential part of the educational vision: working in different contexts on shared problems is today fundamental for imagining the future of cities.
