This particularity stems from the evaluation of dormant potentials and their transformation into sources of inspiration, bringing to architecture a new spirit that is based on the re-interpretation of the current context and its transformation into new values of architecture and society as a whole. <\/p><p><strong>Employment opportunities<\/strong><br\/>The main employment sectors include:<br\/>\u2013 The private sector of architectural design studios or construction companies.<br\/>\u2013 Public sector: the level of local government, starting from the municipalities and communes to the district or regions. The course lays an important foundation for building the knowledge needed for the following academic years to analyze and use analysis as part of the creative process in architectural, urban and landscape design. The course deals with issues that start from theoretical principles on the way we perceive, observe and analyze reality, the way these approaches have changed in relation to philosophical-scientific worldviews; how these worldviews are reflected in urban development models, etc. This knowledge is further developed by illustrating and applying it through practical examples. The combination of knowledge of a theoretical, conceptual and practical nature that is given in the framework of the Analysis of Territory and Settlements, affects the increase in the level of information on the context.    <\/div><div class=\"cs-panel\"><b>History of Architecture and the City<\/b>The subject of the course \u201cHistory of Architecture and the City\u201d is the development of architectural currents from the neoclassical period (1750 c.) to our near contemporary times. This important period in the history of architecture and the city will be studied in three parts. The first section covers the evolution of architectural concept and projects till the turn of the twentieth century (1750-1905). At the center of this course is the Modern Movement in architecture, its origins and future influences (1905 &#8211; 1940). The third part traces the post-World War II urban reconstruction efforts and subsequent post-modern<br\/>efforts (1945 \u2013 2020). The course takes a critical and theoretical stance towards the main movements and protagonists and tries to actualize the issues and topics discussed.     <\/div><div class=\"cs-panel\"><b>Architectural Studio and Theory 1A<\/b>In this course, the first steps towards architecture are taken. Architecture is understood as an open creative process. We will acquire this process by focusing separately on each of its links. Our concentrated attention on each component will give them sufficient prominence, allowing us to grasp them intimately apart from the generalizing blanket of the total. Each link is an exercise, a smaller project within the larger project, with reading, analyzing and creative processes with their own values. Through this subject we will try to understand the architectural creation through its basic formative element, the architectural space. We will achieve this by distinguishing and reading it in tangible examples of the city of Tirana and concrete examples of architectural objects well known worldwide for their qualities.     <\/div><div class=\"cs-panel\"><b>Descriptive Geometry I<\/b>In this course, the study of presentation methods is proposed, seen as necessary tools for the preparation of technical drawings, implied as instruments for the recognition and understanding of reality as well as the development of the design process. A series of knowledge and rules for the construction and presentation of the space will be given, in addition to the necessary instruments for the design and development of the subject and the design idea as well as its graphic presentation, both drawn by hand and with computer tools ( digital). The course aims to stimulate critical awareness and provide scientific knowledge of graphic methods and techniques that enable the transition from the three-dimensional complexity of space to the presentation of a model as a two-dimensional graphic, both in the preparation of hand drawings and in computer way.  <\/div><div class=\"cs-panel\"><b>Mathematics<\/b>The subject of calculus is conceived as a gradual increase of mathematical knowledge in function of the demands that are made today in the field of architecture. The subject will be developed only during the second semester. With the rapid development of computer sciences, seeing the close connection of these sciences with<br\/>the discipline of architecture and mathematics, it is intended that the mathematical knowledge that will be given should in function of this mission. The selected topics aim to be in function of other disciplines that are developed at this university. The program deals with prob-lems of linear algebra, geometry as well as differential and integral calculus for functions with one and two variables. The program aims to equip students with the necessary mathematical knowledge. One of the main tasks of the visual language is to define basic units as topological regions grouped into force fields. Visual perception in this linguistic system is seen as movement, expansion and concentration of mutual effects and transformations, all contained in the general context of the rules of interaction. The course will be divided into two semesters throughout the second year, where in the first semester the topic of individual or one-family housing will be addressed and in the second semester the topic of collective housing. The focus of the study will be the relationship of the form of housing in relation to the contemporary situation in permanent and rapid transformation. The course will contribute to equipped the student with the necessary design tools by exercising control over the transition from idea to drawing and from drawing to space. At the end of the course, the student should be equipped with advanced conceptual and technical skills that will significantly improve his ability to deal with the typology of the individual residence.    <\/div><div class=\"cs-panel\"><b>CAAD I<\/b>The course focuses on training students to use the 2-D design program, i.e. AUTOCAD, necessary for graphic representation in architectural and urban design. As it is already known, computer programs are indispensable in guaranteeing graphic quality and significantly shortening the design time, thus knowing the technical specifications is a necessary prerequisite. The course will not be limited only to the knowledge of the above-mentioned program, but will also enable students to learn important theoretical knowledge about: digital formats used in graphic presentation; standard formats used in architectural rendering; important aspects of architectural design. Also, the course provides for familiarity with the basic knowledge of graphic presentation programs, part of the ADOBE PHOTOSHOP\/ ILLUSTRATOR platform.  <\/div><div class=\"cs-panel\"><b>Building Materials and Constructive Techniques<\/b>The course consists of introducing students to construction materials and construction techniques, starting from the basic ones to those with a certain degree of complexity. The materials will be examined in several plans. Their physical-mechanical-chemical properties will be analyzed, but also special characteristics of certain important materials in the field of construction, such as: concrete, metals, glass or connecting materials and smart ones. Students will be able to assimilate and become familiar with construction materials as well as their use not only in practice but also starting from the early design phase. The objectives of the course are closely related to the basic concepts of building materials. In-depth knowledge of basic building materials (and not only), their practical uses as well as their use from the early design stage are some of the main objectives of the course.    <\/div><div class=\"cs-panel\"><b>Architectural Technology I<\/b>The course aims to equip future architects with basic construction knowledge and the ability to design the architectural project at the project implementation level, as well as to develop the construction and constructive logic of the realization of the work. The objective of the study course is to guide the student, during the process of analysis by which the architect manages and controls all phases of the building construction process, through the interaction of architectural composition and technical solutions, by which they are realized in practice. It will be attempted to equip the student with knowledge on the relationships between activists and spaces, on the one hand, and the functions of technical elements, on the other hand, through the conception and design of the main technical elements.  <\/div><div class=\"cs-panel\"><b>Construction Science I<\/b>The subject \u201cConstruction Science 1\u201d, which takes place during the first semester of the second year, is dedicated specifically to students of the Architecture profile. As such, this module with an engineering background deals with the basic knowledge of static calculations of construction and architectural structures. This theoretical module spanning the first semester is followed in the following semesters by 2 other<br\/>specific modules on building design. The objective of this course is to prepare and equip the architecture student with the basic principles of designing the structure and simple constructions, to be able to design a structural configuration for typologies of civil, industrial buildings and beyond. In order, to be able to read construction projects with all technical aspects. Modules are addressed specifically for this architecture course by combining theory with practice and implementation projects.     <\/div><div class=\"cs-panel\"><b>WSHP TAW\/TDW<\/b>The workshops developed during &#8220;Tirana Design Week&#8221; have a special importance for students, providing a curated and comprehensive experience and serving as a major component as part of their academic journey. Led by local and international design professionals, students included in tangible projects, gaining practical knowledge and improving skills them in specific design disciplines. The workshops are designed by encouraging them students to enable the main knowledge obtained, acquiring technical skills and also foster collaboration, critical thinking and understanding of practices contemporary design. As such this module deals with the basic knowledge for the surveying of architectural objects. The course program includes the main topics of Direct Surveying, surveying with the method of triangles, surveying with theodolite, surveying by drone, these basic sciences in the basic formation of an architect. The Architectural Survey course is designed to acquaint students with traditional or contemporary architecture and the techniques that characterize it. Students get to know architecture as a profession and architecture as everything that surrounds us, they get to know the architectural<br\/>space and the elements that outline it, they get to know the module, the proportion in architecture and the materialization of interior or exterior structures.    <\/div><div class=\"cs-panel\"><b>CAAD II<\/b>The course focuses on training students to use the 2-D design program, i.e. AUTOCAD, necessary for graphic representation in architectural and urban design. As it is already known, computer programs are indispensable in guaranteeing graphic quality and significantly shortening the design time, thus knowing the technical specifications is a necessary prerequisite. The course will not be limited only to the knowledge of the above-mentioned program, but will also enable students to learn important theoretical knowledge about: digital formats used in graphic presentation; standard formats used in architectural rendering; important aspects of architectural design. Also, the course provides for familiarity with the basic knowledge of graphic presentation programs, part of the ADOBE PHOTOSHOP\/ ILLUSTRATOR platform.  <\/div><div class=\"cs-panel\"><b>Architectural Studio and Theory 2B<\/b>The course \u201cArchitectural Studio and Theory II\u201d will deal with residential purposes (apartments). The course will be divided into two semesters throughout the second year, where in the first semester the topic of individual or one-family housing will be addressed and in the second semester the topic of collective housing. The focus of the study will be the relationship of the form of housing in relation to the contemporary situation in permanent and rapid transformation. The course will contribute to equipped the student with the necessary design tools by exercising control over the transition from idea to drawing and from drawing to space. At the end of the course, the student should be equipped with advanced conceptual and technical skills that will significantly improve his ability to deal with the typology of the individual residence.    <\/div><div class=\"cs-panel\"><b>Architectural Technology II<\/b>The course aims to equip future architects with basic construction knowledge and the ability to design the architectural project at the project implementation level, as well as to develop the construction and constructive logic of the realization of the work. The objective of the study course is to guide the student, during the process of analysis by which the architect manages and controls all phases of the building construction process, through the interaction of architectural composition and technical solutions, by which they are realized in practice. It will be attempted to equip the student with knowledge on the relationships between activists and spaces, on the one hand, and the functions of technical elements, on the other hand, through the conception and design of the main technical elements.  <\/div><div class=\"cs-panel\"><b>Construction Science II<\/b>The subject \u201cConstruction Science 1\u201d, which takes place during the first semester of the second year, is dedicated specifically to students of the Architecture profile. As such, this module with an engineering background deals with the basic knowledge of static calculations of construction and architectural structures. This theoretical module spanning the first semester is followed in the following semesters by 2 other specific modules on building design. The objective of this course is to prepare and equip the architecture student with the basic principles of designing the structure and simple constructions, to be able to design a structural configuration for typologies of civil, industrial buildings and beyond. Taking into consideration the variety of modeling and digital drawing software on the market as well as the introductory presentation with the BIM methodology of CAD II in the previous year, the software Rhinoceros 7 (from McNeel &#038; Associates) was chosen for application, which carries 3 freeform modeling methodologies from the most used today in architecture or design of various scales: 1) NURBS Modeling &#038; 2D Drafting, 2) Sculpting with SubD and 3) Integrated algorithmic modeling through Grasshopper 3D. Based on the theoretical approach of breaking down the concept of form into Form &#038; Wave, we understand the different hierarchical levels where these two concepts exist in relation to the degree of reading and interpretation.     <\/div>\n<div class=\"cs-panel\"><b>Urban Planning Studio<\/b>The Urban Planning Studio is included in the group of studio subjects in general, and those of urban planning and design specifically. This course integrates interdisciplinary knowledge acquired in the courses of architecture studios, and of urbanism and environment (sustainable development) developed during the previous years and especially of territory analysis of settlements. The subject contains several main logical lines which combine issues of the theoretical, conceptual and practical nature of design and urban planning that are mainly based on the critical analysis of planning movements with a central focus on the American experience, confronting it with the European and Albanian experience. This subject tries to demystify the \u201cHealthy\/Resilient City\u201d concept about the state and planning of settlements, especially after the recent pandemic and sanitary crises, or any type of destabilization such as: earthquakes, floods, fires.   <\/div>\n<div class=\"cs-panel\"><b>Technical Physics and Plant Engineering<\/b>The subjects \u201cTechnical Physics\u201d &#038; \u201cImpiantistics\u201d, as two complementary subjects of each other, are quite important for the basic formation of third-year Architecture students. This subject is related to the study of the physical parameters that characterize the internal inhabited environments as well as to the determination of the ways, tools and systems for their provision and preservation. Such elements of the quality of indoor environments, such as thermal comfort, air quality, visual comfort, as well as acoustic comfort, have been studied on the basis of the laws and parameters of technical physics.On this basis, the tools or energy systems that are part of the apartment, which make possible to provide and maintain these parameters, such as natural and mechanical ventilation systems, cooling systems and heat pumps, lighting systems, and acoustic systems are examined to. <\/div>\n<div class=\"cs-panel\"><b>Economics and Construction Site<\/b>The subject \u201cEconomy and construction site\u201d is designed to be developed in the first semester of the third year of architecture. The main objective of the subject \u201cConstruction Economics\/Construction Site\u201d is to provide students of the relevant year of POLIS University with the main knowledge on economics and to present basic and other concepts in terms of the recognition and understanding of economic phenomena in the field of construction, their technical application, legal and economic &#8211; financial aspect, in everyday life, Theoretically and practically, these applications are present on construction sites, management, and investments in the construction industry. Students gain knowledge on preventive measures in construction, application for building permits, safety and health on the construction site, the use of BIM to produce books of measures, etc.   <\/div>\n<div class=\"cs-panel\"><b>Architectural Studio and Theory 3A<\/b>This studio aims to present architectural solutions that address the typology of the collective dwelling in the city, while dealing with the structure placed in the urban socio-cultural context and in harmony with public spaces and the characteristics of their use. By designing with and for diverse interest groups, students are encouraged to discover clear and pioneering solutions that enrich community living with other civic services. Studio Architecture III will highlight the importance of sustainability, resilience and well-being of the individual and society as a whole. Students will try to design solutions that reflect the ambition and vision of the time, but are reliable and technically feasible. The student connects his competence and professional commitment with important political and social issues.    <\/div>\n<div class=\"cs-panel\"><b>Environmental Design Studio<\/b>The purpose and basic concepts of the course have their roots in passive systems\nwhich will be the main part of the course. Their implementation in the project is essential. Also, other important elements that will accompany them will be: urban analysis, climatological conditions, thermal comfort chart, SWOT analysis, vegetation, potential scenarios, solarization, shading, ventilation and cooling schemes, thermal traps during the cold season etc. The main purpose of the course is to enable students to solve environmental problems, to minimize energy consumption to zero, to design buildings independent from the electrical network (self-efficient), to create sensitivity towards recycling problems, to create an optimal thermal conformation inside the building, during summer and winter, to minimize heating-cooling costs in the apartment through passive systems or through thermal insulation.  <\/div>\n<div class=\"cs-panel\"><b>WSHP TAW\/TDW<\/b>The Architecture Week workshops in Tirana offer a comprehensive experience and enriching by integrating the academic journey with the active community of designers or architects. During this course, Architecture students are introduced to the basic knowledge of the principles and methods of designing projects for electrical systems, water supply systems, air conditioning systems and other systems that are integral parts of the building. Furthermore, in the future it has possibility to coordinate their design work with electrical design engineers regarding lighting, installation of electric frames and cabins, for apartments, industrial departments, etc.; as well as with hydraulic engineers for the installation of hydrosanitary equipment; water supply and wastewater discharge columns. The theoretical block aims to expose students to the relationships that urban design has with city planning as a whole, as well as the influence exerted by other disciplines such as sciences, philosophy, sociology, environment, arts, etc. all these will be illustrated with case studies that will show stories of success or failure. Attention will be paid to the Albanian context and the positioning of the discipline of design and urban planning in the current situation.    <\/div>\n<div class=\"cs-panel\"><b>Analysis of Architectural Typology and Morphology<\/b>The course \u201cAnalysis of Architectural Typology and Morphology\u201d seeks to investigate the common characteristics that make up the architectural work. By architectural work is meant all the heritage left by the past, even from the immediate past. This course will not be simply an analytical course, but through the analysis of some key works in the history of architecture, it will seek to reveal a system of design and composition instruments that will be useful to future architects. The selection of works to be analyzed will belong to the built architecture in the Albanian context and mainly those with a residential character. The subjects of the analysis will be the residential complexes built in Albania in the last 50 years. Currently, it is necessary to adhere to the traditional and authentic values of the cities, what exists and is built in the territory. The regulation governing the intervention of an architectural work (which varies from one country to another, and even within the country varies from one province to another, might change based on each task type if it offers a more appropriate restorative response. The main objective of the course is to equip the architecture student with the theoretical basis and principles of restoration.    <\/div>\n<div class=\"cs-panel\"><b>Graphic and Industrial Design<\/b>The course aims to teach the practices and principles of graphic design, as well as the design of a company brand and packaging for one of its supposed products. Students will master the design process, starting from research and study sketches on the idea, its realization through digital programs, to conclude with the presentation and finalization for print purposes or digital publication. The methodology will be the merging of theory with practice to have a more coherent and practical result, but always with an analytical mind and referring to the basic concepts of graphic design and packaging design. The lectures are dedicated to the theory of graphic design, both in terms of design principles and elements that will be elaborated during the weeks, as well as case studies and the evolution of packaging design. In this course, students are introduced to production methods through the ad-dition of material, otherwise known as 3D priming, with material removal methods such as CNC and laser cut, as well as hybrid methods of digital prefabrication such as the for-mation of advanced templates for pouring concrete or polymers. History of Architecture and the CityThe subject of the course \u201cHistory of Architecture and the City\u201d is the development of architectural currents from the neoclassical period (1750 c.) to our near contemporary times. This important period in the history of architecture and the city will be studied in three parts. The first section covers the evolution of architectural concept and projects till the turn of the twentieth century (1750-1905). At the center of this course is the Modern Movement in architecture, its origins and future influences (1905 &#8211; 1940). The third part traces the post-World War II urban reconstruction efforts and subsequent post-modernefforts (1945 \u2013 2020). The course takes a critical and theoretical stance towards the main movements and protagonists and tries to actualize the issues and topics discussed. Architectural Studio and Theory 1AIn this course, the first steps towards architecture are taken. Architecture is understood as an open creative process. We will acquire this process by focusing separately on each of its links. Our concentrated attention on each component will give them sufficient prominence, allowing us to grasp them intimately apart from the generalizing blanket of the total. Each link is an exercise, a smaller project within the larger project, with reading, analyzing and creative processes with their own values.
