Is Polis a “University” or a “Higher Education Institution”?
is a Higher Education Institution, licensed in 2006, which today has full University status. This status was granted by the decision of the Council of Ministers, VKM no. 746, dated 24.10.2012 once the institution had shown its full commitment to quality, standards, scientific research, infrastructure, and international exchange. As such, POLIS University is one of the few public or private educational institutions which offers all 3 university cycles: Professional School and Bachelor; Scientific and Professional Master; and PhD.
Is POLIS accredited?
POLIS University is an Educational Institution which has been granted the Institutional Accreditation and the Study Programs by MASH (The Ministry of Education and Science) and APAAL (Public Agency for Accreditation of Higher Education), no.227, dated 22.07.2009 and reconfirmed on 14.06.2013 with the Decision no.250. This reconfirmation also applied to the award of the University status and the permission to start a Doctoral Program, with VKM no.563, dated 19.11.2012. POLIS has also developed joint degree programs in collaboration with universities in EU countries (Italy, Netherlands); these programs fulfill both national and international standards. With the successful qualification through all stages of accreditation, all operational programs of POLIS are accredited which is undoubtedly an indicator of the Institutional consolidation and confirmation of the quality of our University.
How many study programs/branches are offered by U_POLIS and what are they?
POLIS offers a menu of 16 programs of excellence, through a range of "focused studies" on issues of design, architecture, construction, environment, urban planning management. POLIS provides all cycles of study, ranging from Vocational School to the three cycles of university studies (Bachelor, Master of Science / Professional MBA, and the Doctoral program).

Are Scholarships offered?
Considering that POLIS University offers and promotes the quality, standards, and plenty of new professions and study areas, the "Founding Board" and the "Rector" present stimulating policies which offer easier access through fees equal to the STATE. This facilitation is also closely connected to the maximal commitment the students must have and show from the moment of acceptance to the fulfillment of all requirements during their education at POLIS. On the other hand, these fees are provided in order to offer access not only to those students willing to pay but also to those who are talented and excellent. Even the study programs with market rates offer scholarships at the State rate to the first 600 students who have scored the highest in the High School National Exam. Practically, all the POLIS study programs today offer fees which are equal to the State’s fees or possibilities to win State fees. Is the U_POLIS Diploma recognized outside Albania?
POLIS University is an international educational institution. POLIS is an accredited institution that has passed at least three such verification processes. POLIS is a member of the European network of universities in its fields of specialization and has signed the Bologna Charter in Italy. U_POLIS also conducts joint degrees with the IHS / Erasmus University Rotterdam / Netherlands and DA / Universita’ di Ferrara, Italy. The programs are licensed, monitored and accredited by the legislation and standards of Albania and the EU countries. The recognition, internationalization and the transferring of credits / knowledge of U_POLIS has already been confirmed in specific cases of students who are employed, have migrated or have continued their studies in Albania, in EU countries, or North America. Polis has had plenty of partnerships and agreements with sister universities such as TU Vienna / Austria, Bauhaus / Anhalt University Lawrence Tech Detroit / USA, TU Darmstadt, TU Karlsruhe, UNITS Trieste, La Sapienza, ISF / Bari Polytechnic, NTU Athens , AUK and the University of Prishtina, Belgrade University, University of Skopje, etc… Naturally each has its own rules and original program and reserves the right of 'partial or full assessment of credits / diplomas on the basis of similarities between programs / diplomas. So far, our students have been successful in fully integrating with the public or private labor market or the recognition of diplomas for continuing their studies.
Who is the U_POLIS staff ?
Staff is the essential "capital" for a modern and elite organization. Therefore, the recruitment and development of staff is of paramount importance to the success of U_POLIS. The academic staff at Polis reaches an average number of 100 professionals: 70% of them are full-time staff (40% with a PhD or the title of Professor). The rest consists of external local staff or international guests, most of whom are familiar names in the academic and research encironment. The same qualities apply to the two strategic partner schools in the Netherlands and Italy. For years, POLIS has held the highest standard for the student-lecturer ratio 1:5. How is the social life of U_POLIS?
U_POLIS has an active community of students and Alumni. The social life of Polis is unique, aside from the fact that at Polis we work hard and without a set schedule. The respective associations have been founded to represent these groups and to build a communication bridge between the students and the University, society, and the labor market during and after the completion of studies. They organize free elections, participate in the Senate’s meetings, share information on employment, monitor the career progress, and organize sporting and social events. The POLIS community has a rich network, an active social, artistic, and intellectual life. How can I apply to study at POLIS University?
Immediately after the date of commencement of enrollment at U_POLIS, interested candidates can present their application at POLIS. Usually the period of interests, interviews and registrations begins on July 1st of each year. All interested candidate students may contact us at any time even before this deadline. What is the application procedure?
The admission of candidates to to the 1st cycle programs (3-year) and the integrated programs of the 1st and 2nd cycle (5-year) at U_Polis, is based on a selection process consisting of an oral ,or written, conversation-form interview in the presence of a commission and an intelligence test (IQ), which is based on culture / knowledge acquired by the applicant during high school, in the social and scientific fields and actuality. The students are invited to take the acceptance test at specific times assigned by the Secretariat. The interviews are conducted orally or in writing on the specified time and date. During the oral interview it is important that the applicant demonstrates good communication skills and explains the reason for choosing the specific field of study, thus showing his/her argument abilities and creativity.
For the students of the second cycle, admission is based on personal files, with the documents prescribed in the Regulations, and an oral interview. The purpose of this process is not excluding, but to acquire information in the sense of learning the strengths upon which the future od the student could be built and the weaknesses which can be improved through support and collaboration. We communicate and work with students who reflect positivity. Polis professors are sacred for the institution morale, but they are not considered all-knowing Gods. At POLIS professors are open to learn from each other or from the students. The instructor is a mediator between students and truth, and every student learns on his/her own, through experience, and with the help of the instructor’s guidance.
When is the applicant considered enrolled?
The members of the Evaluation Commission, after completing the evaluation process, inform the candidates about the results. The selected candidates have the right to attend U_ POLIS and can immediately begin the formal enrollment procedure within the deadlines announced by the Secretariat and Financial Office. Formal enrollment means the completion of the necessary legal documentation in the Secretariat, the payment of the enrollment fee and the signing of the contract. This process is finalized with by the act of obtaining the matriculation number by the National Exam Agency. In any case, the school reserves a place only for those who, in addition to passing the admission test, submit all the necessary documentation and the payment of the first semester fees.
How can I get to U_Polis?
The POLIS campus is quite contemporary and is located on the Tirana – Durrës Highway, 5th Km, near QTU. POLIS guarantees free transportation for the enrolled students and staff twice a day; two different buses pick up students and staff members from the city center to POLIS in the morning (8:00) and brings them back to the center in the afternoon (18:00). There are also other options of cheap transport which is available 24 hours: Vore-Tirana, Tirana-Kashar Tirana-TCF, as well as private transport which includes the minivans which travel from Tirana-Durrës. The University promotes walking, biking and car sharing. A considerable number of our teaching staff and students combine carpool, which is not only economical but also more environmentally friendly attitude towards transportation. The campus is open 24 hours / 7 days / year-round, for students and staff. There is free wireless service. The canteen/ bar is open from 7:00 to 20:00, and there are alternative services close to Polis which are offered by the QTU and the surrounding area.
