U_Polis is the “Room for Thought” of policies for spatial development, applied design and technology, and also for leadership and entrepreneurship.
POLIS’ mission is the dissemination of “Knowledge, Technology, and Leadership”. Through applied and scientific research, U_POLIS develops and promotes “scientific excellence and innovation”. The University improves the creative and comprehensive competency through academic education.
U_POLIS is a regional educational platform in the territory of Western Balkans and the Eastern Mediterranean which aims at creating a new generation of “socially responsible” professionals and scientists. POLIS pays special attention to the students’ inclusion in the research-based education by being engaged in community projects, concrete services for the local government, and also programs of scientific research, development and innovation regarding civil society, entrepreneurship and the local authorities. U_POLIS offers a “range of specialized studies” in Art Design, Architecture, Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, and Environmental Studies.
U_POLIS promotes “research work” by investing in the inclusion of “Research and Technology” in all study programs. POLIS encourages the interaction between IKZH_POLIS (the Research and Development Institute), the different faculties and joint projects with other international universities, research institutions, and other partners from the business world.
U_POLIS has founded the research and innovation policies by developing 7 research units, starting with the original organization:
- Co-PLAN, Institute for Habitat Development, followed by
- Metro_POLIS, studio of Architecture and Design
- Research Unit of Architecture and Design (MAD_Center)
- Research Unit of Sustainability (Sust_Lab)
- Scientific Research Center
- Applied Research Center
- Information Resource Center
Coordination between these units combined in a single interdisciplinary center INNOVATION_Factory.
The perfection of the “Research Focus” and the promotion of “Interdisciplinary Collaboration” in the academic and research units stimulates the “Innovation Synergy” through International Exchanges and collaborations like:
- Sicily_LAB an experiment in collaboration with NITRO SAGGIO - New Information Technology Research Office, a research team in Rome, Italy;
- Make_LAB, research lab at LawrenceTech, Detroit/USA;
Master programs in collaboration with Erasmus University/IHS Institute Rotterdam/ Netherlands, TU Vienna/ Austria, and Ferrara University/ Italy.
